Kim is a registered architect and received her degrees, both Master of Architecture and Bachelor of Architecture, from the University of Arizona. Kimís firm provides architectural services to institutions such as school districts, cities, counties and state and federal agencies. The firm works to make positive contributions to the publicís enjoyment of community architecture. Kim is responsible for administration, marketing and project management within the firm.

Kim is involved with her professional organization, the American Institute of Architects, serving in various positions (including President) of both the local and state chapters. She also serves in leadership positions on a number of boards and councils including: Greater Tucson Leadership (Class of 2001, President 2006-7); Arizona Humanities Council, 2002-Present; Arizona Youth Partnership, 2002-Present; Board of Directors (President in 2005-07), TEMPO Tucson, 2001-Present (President in 2003-4); Board of Directors, Junior League of Tucson, 1995-1999; Cornerstone Building Foundation, Board Member, 2002-2006; and Chamber of Commerce.

In her spare time, Kim enjoys traveling (Italy, Greece, and Mexico study abroad programs and travel in Australia, Switzerland, Germany, Turkey, England, Holland, Mexico, and Croatia) distance and trail running, bicycling, swimming, watercolors, sketching, and poetry writing.

Kim is married to Dr. Celestino FernŠndez, UA "University Distinguished Outreach Professor" of Sociology, and she has two children, Alexia Ferranti and George Ferranti.
